Tarot: 3 of Swords

3 of Swords . . . . .
~ Today’s energy invites you to cut through pain
~ Interpersonal dynamics with three people that needs resolving – A Talking Stick Day
~ The energy at the heart of depression illuminated by awareness
~ A willingness to go through painful experiences without resistance brings transformation
~ Cut through the egoic brain to find peace
~ Toss you dogma and bullshit out of the car, do what needs to be done

PROCESS
~ Set your intent to play with this, rather than it being all serious with a pass or fail mentality.  Intuition takes practice.
~ Set your intent to hear the intuitive messages from spirit that you get today from being present with the photo above.
~ Find a quiet place to be present with the photo. (If the kids are running around the room you’re in, forget about it, find another room)
~ Breathe deeply for a few moments, focussing on your breath. This will bring you into a more balanced intuitive state. If your internal dialogue kicks up that’s okay, just notice it and let it pass on through your mind not engaging with it, and focus on your breath again.
~ Notice what attracts you about the photo. As a symbol what does this mean to you and your life walk?
~ Notice any ‘thoughts, images, colours’ that pop up not from your brain, but rather from your gut or elsewhere. (If it’s from your brain that is your ego chatting away, trying to distract you from hearing your intuition.)
~ What do those thoughts, colours, images mean as symbols or otherwise to you specifically and your life?
~ Right them down. Then you have them and can ponder on them any time you want during the day.
~ If nothing comes, do not, I repeat do not beat yourself up, this is playtime remember. Go about your day, something may pop up during the day unexpectedly. If not, no matter, there’s another photo coming tomorrow to play with.  Intuition takes practice.

WHAT IS THIS POST ABOUT – I pull a tarot card every day from the Mayan Xultun Tarot Deck by Peter Balin. Due to honouring copyright I do not post a photo of the card but instead I post a photo of something that resonates as a mirror for that card, from my perspective. It is up to you, to interpret what the photo’s message is for you each day. Play with tarot, see what your intuitive messages are.

Your interpretation and experience is your own. I can only share my personal understanding, I invite you to find your own truths and their relevance in your life. This is really important. If something resonates great, if not chuck it out. We gain nothing by ‘taking on’ others life experiences and beliefs. The juice and healing comes from within your own understanding, it is pivotal for your healing journey and manifesting what you want.

Mayan Daykeeper Ak’bal ~ Ak’bal’s essence is recreation, the beginning of something due to the old & the new coming together. Every moment is created by combining something from the past with something new.

Ak’bal manifests as a completion and the natural beginning
that immediately follows.
Ak’bal’s presence is like a mystery being revealed.
It happens only after something else, something necessary, happens first.
Ak’bal guides what and when something is revealed, as it comes to light out of the darkness or from the consciousness from the unconscious.

Ak’bal’s day is for revelations and for the next generation of truths to manifest.
Be open to new messages or information appropriate for the
immediate present or future, but not for the past.

Those who are born on an Ak’bal day are dreamers and visionaries.
They desire to bring forth something new in the natural evolution
of what is becoming outdated or complete.

Interconnection of Lichens & Mayan Daykeeper Ak’bal

Lichens ~ Holding the energy of Ak’bal ~ Ak’bal’s essence is recreation, the beginning of something due to the old & the new coming together. Every moment is created by combining something from the past with something new.

Lichens have fascinated me for awhile. Living in the Pacific North-West opportunity abounds to see many wonderful species, very often on rotting logs. Here’s an excerpt from  ‘The Conversation‘ website: “There is big news in the world of lichens. These slow growing organisms have long been known to be a collaboration between a fungus and a photosynthetic algae or cyanobacteria. A recent publication in Science may have changed all that.

Researchers have discovered another fungus living in the tissues of lichens. Unlike the dominant fungal type, also known as Ascomycetes, the new fungus is a Basidiomycete that exists as single cells, more closely related to yeast. A survey has found these new fungal cells in 52 genera of lichens, raising the prospect of a previously undetected third partner in the ancient symbiosis.

Interestingly, despite many attempts, it has never been possible to synthesise lichen in the laboratory by combining the two known partners, and now we might know why. Lichenologists have always recognised a mycobiont (fungal partner) and a photobiont (the photosynthetic organism that makes food) and now we may have to find a word for the new fungal component.”

And from the website: Ourcommonroots.com an article on medicinal lichens. Below a close up shot of a log filled with lichens I found on a walk in the woods one day.

Enjoy looking for lichen on your walks in the woods. Okay now a song popped into my head. ‘If you go down in the woods today …’

There are two of my favourites in the photo below, Matchstick lichens and Fairy Cups.

Mayan Daykeeper Imix  brought us back to the beginning of a new cycle of 20 days at the end of which is …… SPRING the season of new growth. We are a part of nature and nature has the ability to transform and grow with incredible speed in Spring. With that in mind we’re playing with the Mayan Daykeepers in this 20 day cycle to begin our own journey into Spring, fresh and rejuvenated, rearing to go.

Today’s Mayan Daykeeper is Ak’bal ~ Ak’bal’s essence is recreation, the beginning of something due to the old & the new coming together. Every moment is created by combining something from the past with something new.  (Full info at bottom of post)

Day 3 of  Playing with Being Present: Today’s theme: A BEVERAGE
Sit with something to drink, be present with it. How does it smell, feel, taste, sound? What are the energies that created it? Does it nourish your body, mind, soul?

Here are some questions to ponder after you’ve done playing with the theme for the day.
~ Does it differ from your usual experience?
~ Have you had a new awareness from this experience?
~ Do you want to play with this again, or did it suck?
~ Was there any value in this experience? What ….
~ Are you beating yourself up for not playing well? Be present with that, and see if you want to repeat the flogging, or might you find that being present with a wee bit of compassion for yourself feels good?

Play, play, play. This is not a test, not supposed to be hard. If it’s not fun don’t do it now, try playing again later.

In this 20 day cycle you are invited to play with being present. Being in the present moment really means we are being conscious. Not in the past and not in the future. When we are in the present all the kvetching we do is not there. What you may notice is that kvetching/internal dialogue is about the past or the future.  Every day will bring a new theme with which to play. An invitation to experience being present for as short or as long as you like. This is not a test, perfection is an illusion and not the natural law. Natural law is imperfection, if you doubt this, I invite you to go into nature and find one perfect thing. There is perfection in imperfection. No matter what we play, sports, games or anything else, with repetition comes learning and improvement. So be gentle with yourself, this is not work, it is play. Have fun experiencing …….

Dreaming for Balance: Defensiveness

Day 3 of  Dreaming for Balance: Today’s theme is DEFENSIVENESS
The word dreaming refers to our sleeping dreams and the awake dreamtime, our life when our physical bodies are awake. We are the creators of both.

Today’s Mayan Daykeeper is Ak’bal ~ Ak’bal’s essence is recreation, the beginning of something due to the old & the new coming together. Every moment is created by combining something from the past with something new.  (Full info at bottom of post)

In this 20 day cycle you are invited to use Trance Dreams/Day-dreams which occur through intent or sometimes spontaneously through meditation as a discovery tool. Every day You are invited to play with the theme presented. You may choose to intend on having a new awareness around this theme that day and just allow your subconscious mind to present you with an awareness during the day, or you may choose to do a meditation on the theme and see what comes. You may choose to do nothing and that’s okay too. Whatever you choose, I invite you to not make this ‘work’ but rather something to play with, something to explore. What you do with your findings? …… Well you decide the answer to that one.

The daily themes may be used to illuminate different aspects of your ego; the places where your masked ego is ‘on point’ and the places where your ego has become the transcended ego. Uncovering the masks that you took on to survive, and the places where you have taken off your mask and discovered the beauty of impermanence.

Impermanence is the nature of reality. Everything is impermanent, plants, animals, rocks, our bodies, Grandmother Earth, stars, our moods, and yes even our ego. Living in Impermanence is the state of being that is called the transcended ego. As you heal and change, integrating impermanence into your life, you gain freedom. Living from a place of impermanence, you are no longer at the Effect of Life and Others. You stand in the moment and take action, flexible and in control of your choices.

In everything there are positive and negative energies. The masked and transcended ego are just the ying and yang of that particular energy we call the ego. Neither is right or wrong, they are both just states of being where you can understand and learn more about yourself. With that understanding you are at choice, what action you take is up to you.

There are many types of dreams for various reasons. Some of which are Recapitulation Dreams which provide information for us to problem solve issues and questions about our daily lives. Prophetic dreams which give us information about the future. Trance Dreams/Day-dreams which occur through intent or sometimes spontaneously through meditation. Epic Dreams that show us other worlds, some are life changing and some magickal. The ultimate dream goal, is the Power Dream, where we have gained enough knowledge and ability to control our sleeping dream in order to manifest what we will in both the sleeping and awake dreams.

Dreaming Day 3 with Daykeeper Ak’bal

Day 3 of our 20 day cycle of dreaming. Happy New Year ever one. May you create your year 2018 into a powerful year of healing with ease and fun as well as all the juicy life details you desire. 2018 is yours to birth, how it looks is in large part up to you. Folks challenge me on this, siting the random things that happen to each of us that we are not creating. While it may be true some random things happen to you, you are always at choice as to how you react to them.

In the last few months someone I barely new died, she had terminal cancer. She made an enormous impact in my life and in our community. Why? The most common thing I heard was “I hardly knew her, but her joy of living and love touched me. She was one of the happiest people I’ve ever met” How she chose to live her life with cancer affected us all, but the person that it affected the most was her. What an amazing imagemaker she was.

Tonight’s dream intent will be working with Ak’bal ~ Ak’bal’s essence is recreation, the beginning of something due to the old & the new coming together. Every moment is created by combining something from the past with something new.

Your dream intent is something that is relevant to your life that you wish an answer for.
I.E. with Ak’bal: “My dream intent is to see one new way for my healing practice to make greater impact”
There is information on the process starting at the asterisks *** below.

Dreaming is one of the ways we get information and messages that we can use to manifest our realities in this lifetime. The word dreaming refers to our sleeping dreams and the awake dreamtime, our life when our physical bodies are awake. We are the creators of both.
~ What did you dream about last night?
~ Did you remember your dream?
~ Did you glean anything from your dream?
Please feel free to share in the comments section.

dreaming, dream interpretation, mayan, daykeeper, Ak'bal, death, rebirth, healingthroughceremony.com. Michele Fire-River Heart

In our current 20 day cycle you are invited to explore and start to train your ability of    dreaming. Each evening before you fall asleep set an intent based on the essence of the Daykeeper present that day, each morning you will interpret your dream for a message.  There may be many messages in a dream, however let’s do baby steps. The most important thing to remember is NO-ONE can interpret your dream for you. I don’t care how many books or people say otherwise and here’s why. Dreams teach you through symbolism, your symbolism. If you see a horse in your dream, what does the symbol of a horse represent to you? A horse will represent many different things as a symbol to different people. So if someone else interprets your dream, you are getting their interpretation of the symbols in your dream from their perspective not yours. I don’t know about you, but I find no relevance in that.

Your dream creation, Your symbols, Your interpretation, affecting Your life.

Here are some steps that may help, use what you wish or don’t use any it’s up to you. Most importantly if you do not remember a dream that’s perfectly okay, there are days we remember and days we don’t. Be gentle with yourselves this is not a test, it’s an exploration. Exploring doesn’t always result in finding the pot of gold, sometimes the end of that darn rainbow is just elusive and that’s the way it goes. Have fun.

*** DREAM INTERPRETATION PROCESS
Before you go to sleep
~ Put a pen and paper next to your bed for easy access
~ Set an intent based on the current Daykeeper. Something that is relevant to your life that you wish an answer for.
~ Write it down on you paper
~ Say it out loud just before you fall asleep

In the morning or any time you wake during the night. As you are waking up, in that time when you are aware of the dream and waking up
~ Intentionally remember as much of the dream as you can
~ Write down as much as you can using double line spacing, including how you felt/feel, emotions, colours, smells, etc. Write it as it comes, do not go into your head analyzing if it makes sense or is coherent, just write
~ Using your extra line spacing to write in, write down your interpretation of what each word means to you symbolically
~ When complete look for meaning, a message within your interpreted writing. Just one, finding all the messages and meanings can be overwhelming to start. If nothing makes sense, see if a certain word, symbol, feeling, emotion, smell or colour that jumps out and go from there. There is no right or wrong here, if you feel it’s relevant then it is. If nothing comes don’t stress or beat yourself up, just leave it for now and go about your day.
~ Ask for more of the dream or meaning be revealed to you during your day.

Other questions that may help:
~ What was my intent?
~ What is the feeling of the dream?
~ What is the general energy of the dream?
~ What was the most important object in the dream?
~ How does this dream relate to my intent?
~ Is there a symbol that sticks out from the rest? What does it represent to me in relation to my intent?

There are many types of dreams for various reasons. Some of which are Recapitulation Dreams which provide information for us to problem solve issues and questions about our daily lives. Prophetic dreams which give us information about the future. Trance Dreams/Day-dreams which occur through intent or sometimes spontaneously through meditation. I invite you to take a moment, go to your breath, just focus on your breath with the intent of hearing your own wisdom of what you need to hear in relation to the word and the photo. If it speaks to you to write it down each day, or make a symbol, or a piece of art indulge yourself.

Love is … Parents ~ Today’s Daykeeper is Ak’bal

When I was growing up there was this lovely cartoon series created by New Zealand cartoonist Kim Casali. (Loveiscartoon.com) I remember waiting for the newspaper to see what the cartoon was that day. It is one of the few things that stuck in my memory about that time in my life. So I’m taking a leaf out of her book, sans cartoons to illuminate my thoughts about love in the upcoming blog posts. Some you may agree with some you may not, it is just my opinion, you have your own and that’s as it should be.

I encourage you to add your own in the comments sections & I will add them in.

Parents: Love is …
~ Reading a bedtime story
~ Forgiveness
~ Getting the perfect gift, because they ‘get you’
~ Nursing you when you’re ill
~ Taking care of you when they’re ill
~ Always having your back
~ Celebrating your victories
~ Holding space for you when you’ve made a mistake
~ Teaching you everything from talking to world affairs
~ A stroke on the cheek
~ Brushing your hair gently
~ Cleaning up after you when you’re little
~ Providing for you
~ Hugs & kisses
~ Holding space for you when your heart is broken
~ Cooking, cleaning, bathing, shopping, etc.
~ Supporting you no matter what
~ Not validating bad behaviour
~ Setting healthy boundaries
~ Having healthy boundaries of their own
~ Not being a crutch for you when you’re an adult
~ Letting you go, so you can live your own life
~ Not putting their needs onto you
~ Encouraging your sense of individuality
~ Not offering advice if it is not requested even if they’re dying to give it (Age appropriate)
~ Giving you the opportunity to make your own choices and mistakes
~ Admitting their mistakes
~ Saying sorry and changing their own bad behaviours
~ Treating children as little people not chattel
~ Including you in family decision making (Age appropriate)
~ Encouraging you to voice your own opinions
~ Letting you learn from natural consequences (Situation dependent)

Well clearly I could go on and on, parenting is big. So too is their influence in our lives. They induce love & hate in us. Almost every parent has heard “I hate you!” at some point. The bottom line is no matter what, the ties that bind us to our parents are strong, and usually filled with love. As adults we have the opportunity to see them as people, just fallible people doing the best they can at the hardest job in the world, with the least amount of education. They make mistakes just like we do, it is up to us to find the gifts and lessons even in those mistakes, and get to the place of being able to see the love. Life is short, forgiveness is for us.

Animal totems are numerous and varied, beliefs about how many we have and what they do, are just as varied. I present what I have been taught and experienced. Trance drum journeys are a way to find your animal totems, be it just one or many. I facilitate drum journeys. Should you be interested in doing one, contact me & we’ll set up an appointment for this magickal experience.

So what are Totem Animals and why would you even want one? Animal Totems are animal spirit allies, on your journey in this lifetime. They give you advice when asked for, and answer questions you have. They can support you when you’re scared, help empower you, clarify things, show you the next step in your healing journey, walk with you as a trusted companion and more. There are 9 Animal Totems, one in the centre and 8 around your Animal Totem Medicine Wheel. Are they real animal spirits? Well I don’t think it matters one iota if they are or aren’t, what you imagine you create. Whatever you believe and experience is your truth. It is the wisdom & knowledge you get from them that matters, not whether you believe that it’s an animal spirit or a part of your own psyche.

The 2nd Imagining ~ Today’s Daykeeper is Ak’bal

If something resonates great, if not chuck it out. We gain nothing by ‘taking on’ others life experiences and beliefs. The juice and healing comes from within your own understanding, it is pivotal for your healing journey and manifesting what you want.

On Sept 21st Mayan Daykeeper Imix brought us back to the beginning of a new cycle of 20 days. This cycle we are looking at creation through imagination. The relevant daily information on today’s Mayan Daykeeper is below todays musings.

We are creators of our lives, what we imagine we create.

We are looking at ‘The Twelve Imaginings’. The were given to Hyemeyohsts Storm by Estcheemah. She was a Zero Chief. Hyemeyohsts wrote these down in his book Lightningbolt. What is a Zero Chief? My understanding is the Zero chiefs were a secret group of people that keep the spiritual & healing knowledge of the Native Americans when it needed to go underground, to preserve it and keep it safe due to colonization. Now I could be wrong, but there it is, make of it what you will.

We will do an imagining a day for 2 days. On the third day I will add an imagining of my own. You are invited to add imaginings of  your own in the comments section on any day. On the 20th day of the cycle I will list all the imaginings that have been submitted.

The 2nd Imagining ~ I imagine that life is challenge & giving – otherwise I would not be experiencing the presence of life and Her Balance

Challenge affords us the opportunity to take part in life & find out the truth of things. Giving  affords us, all the planet provides, that sustains & engages us. Put the two together and we have our life experience her on beautiful Grandmother Earth.

I invite you to sit with this, and write down what this means to you.

Here’s some of what that means to me:
~ I live in abundance
~ There is no end to places I can explore
~ Nature teaches me about challenge, giving & balance
~ My life is rich and fulfilling
~ Seasons offer me the opportunity to understand & live within the rhythms of nature
~ Animals mirror what I need to accept & bring into my life

Imagination, blackberries, thorns, mayan, daykeeper, Ak'bal, death, rebirth, healingthroughceremony.com. Michele Fire-River Heart
Mmmmm blackberries, the challenge is to harvest them without too many thorns ripping your skin. The giving is obvious, the plant makes these berries specifically to give them away.  The seeds will not be viable until they have been abraded in a bird’s gizzard or eroded by digestive acids. Then water and air can enter the seed and germination can begin. So whoever/whatever eats the blackberries is giving back as well.

Mayan Daykeeper Ak’bal ~ Ak’bal’s essence is recreation, the beginning of something due to the old & the new coming together. Every moment is created by combining something from the past with something new.

The Interconnection of Pain & Sacred Plants ~ Today’s Daykeeper is Ak’bal

Your interpretation and experience of these energies is your own. I can only share my personal understanding, I invite you to explore what they mean to you and their relevance in your life. This is really important. We gain nothing by ‘taking on’ others life experiences and beliefs. The juice and healing comes from within your own understanding, it is pivotal for your healing journey.

This cycle I am looking at the interconnection between The Twenty Great Teachers of Life and The Earth Count. Let’s see what their interconnection has to teach us. The relevant daily information on each energy is below todays musings.

The interconnection of pain and Sacred Plants ~ Well I imagine most of you know that plants heal, most of our medicines are based on plant medicine, and many of us still use plant medicine directly from Grandmother Earth in it’s natural form. On vacation this year I burnt my finger. As I was out camping I had a small med kit but nothing for burns. On the beach was a succulent plant that my intuition informed me would be useful. I tested it and yes, low and behold when rubbed on my burn, the pain went away and the burn healed at twice the usual rate. Nature provides, plants heal pain. Now I am not suggesting you go out and experiment, I happen to work with plants and plant medicine. It is important to gather information and knowledge before using a plant. To ensure that it is the right medicine for you. There are many resources available and master herbalists are now coming back into our culture. Find one that resonates with you and explore the wonders of our pain relieving plants.

3 – The Third Great Teacher is Pain
Pain teaches us respect for the different forms that life takes

Pain, there are so many kinds, they all have one thing in common they warn us that we need to take notice of something. Like most of life’s lessons, if we ignore pain or block it out, things get worse not better whether we are aware of it or not. So if we were teaching a child about pain what would we teach? Well all we can teach is anecdotal, as we can intellectualize pain, but we have no point of reference unless we experience it, and we all experience it differently. That said however, we can teach through our life experience and our actions, by dealing with pain openly, honestly and with the greatest speed possible.
Okay great, lalala, but what does that mean to you, right? I image if you’re reading this you have experienced pain, physical, mental and emotional, although I tend to think mental & emotional go hand in hand. I invite you to recapitulate a pain that has healed, how did you handle it? Now in retrospect, could you have done something differently back then to speed up your healing? This is not about judging yourself, or beating yourself up, this is about looking back in neutrality to see what you learned from that experience. At the time you were doing the best you could with the knowledge you had.

I know for myself I used to drown mental/emotional pain with substances. When I blew up my life I finally was at the point that I could let go of that strategy, heal and create a new one. Sobriety. However patterns of behaviour run deep and I still ignored physical pain with the validations that I had to work through the pain, because of monetary needs, I was getting older, my liver was unhealthy due to past abusive behaviours, etc. and therefore, I manifested a life that was physically painful every day.

I then worked on not ignoring my body’s pain, with strategies, hot packs, cold Great Teachers, Pain, mayan, daykeeper, Ak'bal, death, rebirth, healingthroughceremony.com. Michele Fire-River Heartpacks, topical pain relievers, and yes sometimes meds, which is not a good strategy as it results in other lovely side effects in me, such as reflux and heartburn, yaay pharmaceuticals ….not! Now I have graduated to honouring my body’s pace and abilities more often than not, healing my poverty mentality and changing my diet, which has been stunningly successful in reducing pain in my body. It hasn’t been quick, it’s been gradual, and is still a work in progress.

Reflecting back I am amused by all my creative validations that kept me stuck where I was and in pain. Now I have a new awareness of a few different forms my life has taken and I created it all. How I choose is still up to me, but now I have a lot more knowledge and tools at my disposal and the wisdom to apply them, more often than not.

How do you deal with physical pain?
How do you deal with emotional pain?
In all the ways you deal with pain, what is the most successful?
In all the ways you deal with pain, what are you the most proud of? Think there’s nothing, look again, there’s always something each of us does well, find it, own it!

Ak’bal is here today (Mayan Daykeeper)

Ak’bal’s essence is recreation, the beginning of something due to the old & the new coming together. Every moment is created by combining something from the past with something new.

3 – Ak’bal    and     3 – Sacred Plants (Hyemeyohsts Storm’s Earth Count)

Well plants certainly create something new with something from the past. From last years seeds spring new life. Ak’bal is present here. I wonder if this is part of the fascination with plants? It seems so miraculous that a huge tree for example can spring from such a tiny seed. In the spring we wait with anticipation for the first signs of growth, and then the speed with which some things grow is quite astounding. What a wonderful mirror they are to encourage us when things aren’t ‘growing’ quite as fast as we would like. Right now I have put since January, so much energy into creating and building my new company HEALINGthroughCEREMONY, that I am being challenged by the growth rate. If I look at it from the perspective of a seed, well I have just pushed out those first green shoots, the growth spurt is about to happen. This makes me feel a lot better actually, yay plants thanks for that mirror. Hmmmm funny how my ‘other’ job is working with plants, well I am good at creating what I need that’s for sure.

All the sacred plants I work with help me stay in balance, open my heart, teach me about pace and timing, death & rebirth, acceptance, patience, perseverance, strength, flexibility, abundance, resting, working with my energy, honing my intuitive abilities, honouring my body’s needs, nourishment, releasing what no longer serves me, timing, preferences, medicine, beauty, joy, astonishment, discovery. Well I have to say I didn’t expect that list when I started, sweet, what a gift they bring.

Do you love plants? What do they have to teach you about yourself?

Here’s one of my favourite plants. I adding another load of weeds to a garden dump pile when I saw a little twig no more than 4 inches long  from a pruned branch, that it had two green leaves sprouting from it. It’s determination to live touched my heart and I had to bring it home. That was two years ago, look at it now. I love how the flowers change colour over the course of their life, how they change colour due to what’s in the soil, how even dried at the end of the season they are beautiful. Like us they need lots of water, but when given what they need their blooms are so much bigger than the plant itself. So much teaching for us in this plant. It even has medicinal uses. Hail the mighty Hydrangea.

If you have been following my blog the information below is a repeat from our last Ak’bal days. Akbal days this year so far: Jan 6th, 26th, Feb 15th, March 7th, 27th, April 16th, May 6th, 26th, June 15th

Ak’bal is present today (Mayan Daykeeper)

Ceremony, ceremony, ceremony…… Ceremony offers us the opportunity to recreate & rebirth ourselves each & every time.

I realize a majority of people may understand ceremony as per the dictionary definition – A formal religious or public occasion, typically one celebrating a particular event or anniversary or the ritual observances and procedures performed at grand and formal occasions. This is not the type of ceremony I am referring to. Healing ceremonies are designed to address a specific issue. They provide a container to release what is ready to heal & make space for bringing in something new. They empower us & touch the very core of our being. They are done individually or with another, it depends on the intent.

Here is a ceremony for you to do should you wish. It holds the energy of Ak’bal perfectly. Gratitude to The Rainbow Bridge Ceremonial Society for this one.

VICTORY JAR CEREMONY

Intent: To train in the ability to celebrate the victories we have in life every day in order to improve overall health and well-being.

Introduction: Many of us grew up to believe that a good work ethic looked like this: pushing ourselves to the point of exhaustion, remaining busy, chastising ourselves mentally for every perceived mistake, and looking for all the things that might go wrong. Today, psychologists call these patterns “dysfunctional.”

When something is dysfunctional in medical terms, it means that it is not functioning properly and it

I chose this pic as it represents kindness to oneself from my perspective

might even be causing harm to the whole system. What we know today is that this very “work ethic” that our North American world reveres is making humans very ill. Mental illness is on the rise in our young people, despite many medical advances. Many people are overwhelmed and stressed emotionally with no strategies for how to deal with crippling depression and addiction. Many of these dysfunctions are appearing in children at alarming rates. So what is really going on here? From a shamanic perspective, if a belief is not life-giving, it has to go. It’s time to rethink what “success” really means and developing our own definition of that word.

Now that we know what dysfunction looks like, what might a healthy approach to living look like? Humans need space to play, compassion, dreaming time, creativity, and adaptability to live in the world in a balanced way. Not all of us can do everyday tasks with ease. All of us have different brains and some of us have brains that have to work overtime simply to make sense of the busy and chaotic environment we’ve created in North America to live in. The fact that such people continue to persevere is a victory indeed!

What is the antidote to changing dysfunction into health in our busy world? Celebrating our daily victories, no matter how small. If that sounds rather simplistic to you and you are not inclined to believe all the neuroscience and ancient knowledge that supports this practice, good. In shamanism, what is valued is experiential knowledge. You are invited to do the ceremony with your family members, if they are willing, or on your own for 21 days. Notice any positive shifts or changes within yourself as they occur.

Materials:
500 mL mason jars for each person in the family participating
Dry macaroni, beans, marbles, beads or pebbles
Journal
Spirit Feeding List
Art supplies (optional) You may wish to decorate your jars

Ceremony

In your journal, write all of the things you do (or can do) in your life that feed your spirit. Note that some of these may not be things you have time to do every day, but that is okay. These things need not cost a lot of money. Many things that feed the spirit don’t cost any money at all (i.e. nature walks, visiting friends, playing board games, colouring, listening to music alone in your room). Some of these things might be ones you really want to try out. For some people, new adventures are really spirit feeding! This could be as simple as walking through your city aimlessly for a couple of hours and seeing what you find.

*Note: It is advisable to choose things on the list that help you become more connected to yourself or others. Avoid putting things on your list that are numbing behaviours that will further isolate you (i.e. eating sugar, zoning out in front of the TV, etc).

You don’t want to use a jar that is too big because it’s important to make sure that victories are celebrated often for the positive effect of this practice to grow. Your mission for the next 21 days is to notice any victories you have in your life during the day (no matter how small) and put one item in the jar for every success you’ve experienced.  Some examples of successes:

~ Working with a mentor on a challenging task even though it takes a lot of effort.

~ Persevering through frustration after many failed attempts in order to accomplish a goal.

~ You were able to stop the mean voices in your head telling you you were stupid and change to loving voices telling you: you are trying your best and you will do better next time.

~ Staying neutral emotionally when a friend or family member are upset with you. Not taking on their “stuff.”

~ Taking responsibility for your own part in something and changing behaviour that is not life-giving for you or others.

~ Showing good sportspersonship when maybe other teammates or opponents don’t.

~ Standing up for yourself in ways that do not harm self/others.

~ Publishing a book you worked hard on.

~ Putting your art out for exhibit.

~ Setting up a YouTube Channel and putting out tutorial videos.

~ You chose to be kind to someone when you could have been mean.

When your jar is full, choose something from your list and take the time to do that thing with full enjoyment! Allow yourself to really take in that victory. Then put another item in your now empty jar because making space and time to celebrate is a victory indeed! And start the practice all over again. Journal any a-has and reflections you’ve had from this ceremony if you wish to see how this practice changes you through time. Keeping your jar practice going is highly recommended for good psychic and emotional hygiene upkeep. And congratulations on your victories!

Ak’bal’s essence is recreation. Birthing by combining the old & the new. Spring cannot come without winter. You evolve, discover & grow upon your past experiences. Death & rebirth.

It’s an Ak’bal day (Mayan Daykeeper)

Recreation, not an excuse to delay life, an opportunity to become more yourself. Each experience you have, each moment changes you, from a molecular level on up. When you are in tune with your body, it is much easier to feel and/or intuit these changes. This helps you direct your life in a more beneficial way for your body & your whole life.

This morning my internal dialogue kicked up, as I woke up tired. My body is tired right now, I have been doing a lot of physical work & as a the result of this stress I have been indulging in sugar treats. The cascade of that is increased fatigue, lowered immune system, & neurochemistry that is not happy. As I grumbled my way out of bed, brushed my teeth & grumbled my way to getting dressed it hit me – ‘Change your attitude!’ So I went into the feeling of being happy, certain, capable, loving myself & my body. The shift was immediate & I felt relief from the grumbly internal dialogue. What I have experienced is that, how I feel is directly related to what I allow my internal dialogue to do. So no matter what the fatigue level in my body is, if I’m grumbly it’s worse, if I am happy it’s better. Now some days it’s easier to shift than others, but what I know for certain is that if I stop indulging in sugar, that alone will shift my mood & ability to do so.

I wish you all a non-grumbly day. Here on Gabriola Island in the Salish Sea, it’s looking like a incredible day, sunny & up to 23 C – whoo hooo!

If you have been following my blog the information below is a repeat from our last Ak’bal days. Akbal days this year so far: Jan 6th, 26th, Feb 15th, March 7th, 27th, April 16th, May 6th, 26th.

Ak’bal’s essence is recreation. Birthing by combining the old & the new. Spring cannot come without winter. You evolve, discover & grow upon your past experiences. Death & rebirth.

THE MAYAN DAYKEEPERS

The Mayan Daykeepers are spiritual beings with an archetypal energy within cycles of the Tzol’Kin or Mayan astrology. There are 20 Daykeepers each one presenting different energies & assigned to be present on certain days of the year. Rotating in a twenty day cycle.

I have found that having an awareness of which Daykeeper is present on any particular day, informs me about the active energy present that day. In this way I have more ease, fuidity & healing in my journey. I offer a snipit of the knowledge presented in the book Mayan Calendar Voice of the Galaxy by Raymond

Mardyks and Stacia Alana-Leah. They present comprehensive information on the way the calendar works, the energetics of the Daykeepers, the iconography of each Daykeeper, the symbol of each Daykeeper, meditations with the Daykeepers, as well as your personal birth Daykeeper.
